As BroadwayWorld reported back in 2010, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep have been in talks to star in the film adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, August: Osage County. Producers at The Weinstein Company, which is developing the project alongside the show's producer Jean Dourmanian, had been hopeful to begin filming in the summer of 2011, however the project was sidelined for what was believed to be scheduling conflicts. Not much has been mentioned on its progress since.
Today, however, the LA Times has given 'August' fans new hope, revealing that schedule openings for the stars this September could mean the green light for the project.
Streep would play the role of Violet Weston, the drug-addicted, paranoid mother, and Roberts her eldest daughter, Barbara Fordham.
John Wells will direct the film, which is being adapted by Letts for the screen. According to the LA Times, Letts recently completed a new draft of the screenplay, which was very well received by The Weinstein Company and Dourmanian.

Back in 2010, there were talks of Jack Nicholson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman and Mary Louise Parker joining the all-star cast, however with this potential shooting schedule, no additional casting possibilities have been mentioned.
