Even the best have their off moments and just like in live theatre, there are no retakes in live radio.
So when beloved West End star Elaine Paige, whose long list of stage accomplishments include originating the title role in EVITA and introducing "Memory" as CATS' first Grizabella, caught herself almost saying a nasty word on the air, her ensuing giggle fit was broadcast throughout a no-doubt delighted country.
As the host of BBC Radio 2's "Elaine Paige On Sunday" since 2004, the sublime singer chats about the latest theatre happenings and plays some favorite showtunes. This past Sunday she was introducing a song from the new musical based on John Gay's THE BEGGARS OPERA, titled THE BUSKERS OPERA, playing at Park Theatre. (parktheatre.co.uk)
As heard in the clip below, she handled the introduction like a pro, but when the song was over she had a slight problem getting the title of the show right.
