As reported by BroadwayWorld, in November of 2015 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who attended Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway smash HAMILTON during its Off-Broadway Public Theater run, quoted the musical at a roundtable discussion on the economy, held at Dartmouth College.

Commenting on the previous evening's Republican debate, the former Secretary of State lifted a quote from the Richard Rodgers stage to make a point.

Prior to yesterday's New York primary election, incumbent Jerrold Nadler, running for the Democratic nomination for New York's 10th Congressional District U.S. House seat, debated challenger Oliver Rosenberg, a former investment banker, on WNYC's Brian Lehrer Show.

At the 4:18 mark, during a passionate speech about New Yorkers reclaiming their city, Rosenberg quotes, "As Alexander Hamilton says, 'This is not a moment. This is the movement. Foes oppose us. We take an honest stand. We roll like Moses claiming our promised land. Rise up, rise up and vote.'"

While it's likely that the candidate knew very well that he was quoting the musical, his wording, attributing Miranda's lyrics to the actual founding father, did create an unusual moment in American politics.

Nadler defeated Rosenberg in Tuesday's primary election.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow's biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

HAMILTON is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation's first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now.

HAMILTON's creative team previously collaborated on the 2008 Tony Award Winning Best Musical In The Heights.

HAMILTON features scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe, and casting by Telsey + Company, Bethany Knox, CSA.

The musical is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman and The Public Theater.

The Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording is available everywhere nationwide. The Hamilton recording received a 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album.
