This July and August, Friends of the High Line invites all New Yorkers to its popular, free ¡Arriba! evenings, where two of New York City's most exciting bands will turn the High Line into a dance floor. And for those who want to learn how to salsa, free dance instructions will also be provided by Milteri Tucker Concepcion of Bombazo Dance Company.

The July and August ¡Arriba! evenings will feature: WEDNESDAY, JULY 5, 6 pm: Folklore Urbano and WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 6 pm: Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra

¡Arriba! will be free with RSVP, and will take place on the High Line at 16th St.

Folklore Urbano
Dance lesson begins at 6 pm on the High Line at 16th St.
Performance begins at 7 pm on the High Line at 16th St.

Folklore Urbano Orchestra is the innovative project of Colombian bandleader, pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Mayor. This powerhouse orchestra seamlessly fuses the danceable swing of traditional Colombian rhythms with the lush subtleties of contemporary jazz harmonies. The ensemble is driven by a rhythm section deeply grounded in traditional Colombian music. Like a feisty chef, leader Pablo Mayor then adds explosive horns and soaring, colorful vocalists to produce a tasty, sultry, addictive blend. Featuring the stunning ALEA on vocals and an ensemble of world-renowned jazz and traditional musicians.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2

Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra
Dance lesson begins at 6 pm on the High Line at 16th St.
Performance begins at 7 pm on the High Line at 16th St.

The Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra plays dynamic, dura arrangements of indie rock tunes. With an ever-evolving set list that includes songs by Arcade Fire, TV On The Radio, The Black Keys, and many more, the WSO has taken the typical salsa form and infused it with a completely modern identity. Led by percussionist/arranger Gianni Mano (from the Latin-funk Legends Radio Mundial) and fronted by Argentinian chanteuse Solange Prat, the WSO has found an audience among new and classic salsa lovers, quickly becoming one of the most popular bands in New York City.

Milteri Tucker Concepcion is a Puerto Rican professional dancer, choreographer, dance educator, and scholar. As the founder and artistic director of Bombazo Dance Company, she has performed with salsa legends Larry Harlow and Orchestra, Grammy Aaward winner Arturo O'Farrill, Pete Rodriguez, and, at the 2013 Latin Billboard Awards, pop sensation Don Omar.
