What can Sophocles' Antigone teach us about our times?
Antigone in Ferguson is a groundbreaking social justice project that premiered in Ferguson, Missouri, at Normandy High School - from which Michael Brown graduated - and at Wellspring Church. It brings together different voices in song and in dialogue, to further the conversation about power, violence, and race relations and aims to bridge the growing divide between law enforcement and local communities.
The Onassis Foundation USA is a proud sponsor and co-presenter
At an exclusive presentation in New York City, the Onassis Foundation USA carries the conversation forward with a dramatic reading of Sophocles' Antigone featuring Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards, The Wire), Gloria Reuben (ER), Glenn Davis (24, The Unit), and Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black), followed by a town hall discussion facilitated by director/translator Bryan Doerries.
In an inventive twist, a Gospel Choir stands in for the Greek Chorus with singers from both Ferguson, Missouri and New York City.
Antigone in Ferguson was developed by Outside the Wire and the PopTech Institute, and is co-presented by the Onassis Foundation USA.
