AMNH Junior Council Kicks Off 2013-14 Season with PENGUINS Screening Today

The Junior Council kicks off its 2013-2014 season today, October 3, with a private screening of Penguins in the Museum's LeFrak IMAX Theater and a cocktail reception at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). The screening and events are set to run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Penguin City, on the remote island of South Georgia in the southern Atlantic Ocean, is home to hundreds of albatrosses, fur seals, and brawling elephant seals, as well as 6 million penguins. The young male King Penguin at the center of Penguins must earn his place among the island inhabitants while finding a mate and raising a family. The film follows him through the most challenging time in a King Penguin's life, when he is driven to nurture and defend his offspring against harsh weather and fierce predators.

The American Museum of Natural History's Junior Council is one of New York City's most stimulating membership groups for young philanthropists. Founded in 1994, the Junior Council supports the Museum's mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate-through scientific research and education-knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe. Each year, Junior Council members participate in special events that offer them an intimate view inside the Museum's collections, activities, and exhibitions. Junior Council members go behind the scenes at one of the world's preeminent museums, meet some of the nation's most distinguished and engaging scientists, and preview the latest exhibitions.

Tickets are free for Junior Council members. Tickets to each event are $100 in advance or $125 at the door. Proceeds from each event help support the Museum's educational and scientific programming. Guests should enter via the 77th Street entrance between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.
