It's back-to-school cleaning at the American Museum of Natural History, and that means it's time to dust off one of the most beloved icons at the Museum-the 94-foot-long blue whale model in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. The Museum's Exhibition Department will use long-handled brushes and vacuums to wipe away the dust and dirt from this iconic exhibit.

The whale model, based on a female blue whale found in 1925, has been the centerpiece attraction in the hall since it was first installed in 1969. The largest model of the largest creature that has ever lived on Earth, the whale is sculpted in fiberglass and polyurethane and weighs 21,000 pounds.
