AMH Industries Announces MIRRORS BY MOZA 9/22

AMH Industries has announced MIRRORS BY MOZA, a solo exhibition by the contemporary Mexican artist, Moza Saracho, curated by Anne Huntington at 809 Washington Street at the corner of Gansevoort Street in New York City, supported by The Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.

The opening reception will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6 to 9pm.

MIRRORS BY MOZA is our introduction into Saracho's way of seeing the world through large-scale mirrored sculptures presented in five parts reflecting on truth, destiny, vanity, existence and moments. Each part brings forth a unique experience defined by exploring the interpretation and meaning of the visible and invisible.

The five parts - Truth, Destiny, Vanity, Existence, and Moment - suggest reflections of us as we gaze and observe our inner and outer selves. Each blur and fuse reality and fantasy into an intertwined and indistinguishable being. MIRRORS connects us through portals of perception, recognition, identity, reality and imagination, bringing us to our authentic selves,
our essential double and propels us through vision expanding the imagination into reality.
The first part, Truth is a 21 part series of uniquely colored hand mirrors that span the color spectrum, each 86.5 x 34.25 inches. Truth confronts us with large-scale hand mirrors that play with our perceptions of this world and make us acknowledge the other alluding to history, fantasy and reality that connect in a mesmerizing and massive way through individualized colors that match us with the colors and emotions of our inner selves, our souls. The second part, Destiny is
a unique target, 94.4 x 94.4 inches in diameter that marks us through the target of our lives, an open-ended bull's eye defined by how we connect with the work. The third part, Vanity is a large-scale comb, 94.4 x 20 inches, reflecting how we view ourselves in this world. Vanity necessitates an instinctive look at how we relate the image with our lives. The fourth part, Existence, portrayed through a film strip, 157.4 x 34.2 inches is divided into four sections, which suggest the four
parts of life, the seasons we experience within our existence. The fifth part, Moment is presented through 32 unique Polaroid-like mirrors, each 17.5 x 21 inches. Moment reflects individualized snapshots of our lives, our moments.

MIRRORS BY MOZA brings forth unique experiences that stand before us in large-scale form. We are illuminated by the reflections, questions and meanings of each through our own realities. MIRRORS delves into timeless issues that we face and ultimately presents us with forms that function to create dynamic dialogues on issues surrounding and imbued in
ourselves and in our culture. Moza Saracho (b. 1979, Mexico), a contemporary artist based in Mexico City, received her MFA from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University and studied set design at Istituto Europeo di Design in Italy. Experience includes set design for on and off Broadway, event planning, film production, film and costume design. MIRRORS is her first solo exhibition.
