AMERICAN IDOL Vet Diana DeGarmo Will Join THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES

Producer/Directors Tom and Michael D'Angora will welcome American Idol and Hairspray alum Diana DeGarmo to The Marvelous Wonderettes! From May 25th through July 31st, Diana will play the role of Suzy Simpson, the lovable bubble blowing Wonderette who sings such hits as "Stupid Cupid", "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me", "Rescue Me", and "Respect". DeGarmo says, "I am excited and honored for the chance to sing the music of the iconic women I grew up idolizing, alongside three fabulous and funny gals in The Marvelous Wonderettes. We are gonna have one heck on a time and y'all won't want to miss it!"

The cast currently features Christina Bianco (NEWSical, Application Pending, YouTube fame) as Missy, Jenna Leigh Green (Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Wicked, and bare) as Cindy Lou, Sally Schwab (A Broadway Diva Christmas) as Betty Jean, and Laura Woyasz (Wicked) rounds out the cast as the "Wonderstudy".

Diana DeGarmo rose to fame on the cultural phenomenon, American Idol, where she placed second at the mere age of 16. Shortly after, Diana released her first single "Dreams" which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. She made her Broadway debut at only 18 in the role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, followed by her performance in the Off Broadway cult hit, The Toxic Avenger, as Sarah the blonde, blind, librarian. In 2010, she joined the Broadway revival of HAIR where she met now husband, Ace Young. Soon the two became a dynamic duo writing and singing songs for TV Shows and Films and touring together in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and multiple times with the USO. Diana has also taken her talents on the road with the First National Broadway Tours of BKYLN: The Musical and 9 TO 5. Diana was an active actor as a child growing up in Georgia, but her most recent films include Alto, After the Sun Fell and Wyatt Earp's Revenge. She and her husband will be making their first web series appearance in the new YouTubeRed series, SING IT! coming out soon.

The Marvelous Wonderettes takes a cotton-candied colored musical trip down memory lane to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet "The Wonderettes", four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! We experience their lives and loves from prom night to their 10 year reunion as told through more than 20 chart topping hits of the era!

Created, written, and originally directed by Roger Bean, the previous New York production played at the West Side Theatre from September 2008 to January 2010. As a regional favorite, there have been countless productions all over the world and two sequels, The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns and Winter Wonderettes.

Tom D'Angora is currently the producer of the long running hits NEWSical the Musical and Naked Boys Singing which will continue to run in rep at The Kirk Theatre with The Marvelous Wonderettes. The show is directed by Michael and Tom D'Angora, and a creative team that includes The Marvelous Wonderettes original costume designer, Tony nominee Bobby Pearce (Broadway's Taboo), and Alex Ringler (who has appeared on Broadway in the revivals of West Side Story and A Chorus Line) as choreographer. Benjamin Rauhala serves as music director. Rounding out the company are Billy Davis (sets), Lois Catanzaro (lights), Jen Bullock (wigs), Brendan McCann (props), and Krystal Roccaro (stage manager).

The Marvelous Wonderettes began previews Wednesday March 23rd and opened Thursday April 28th. The show plays Wednesdays at 2:30pm and 8:15pm, Thursdays at 8:15pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm.
