AFA Presents Yoko d'Holbachie Exhibit, MY STRANGE GODDESS, 4/29

Inspired by popular culture in her native Japan and beyond, Yoko d'Holbachie's acrylic on canvas paintings feature candy-colored creatures with wormlike tentacles traveling through fantasy landscapes. Elements of Kawaii, Anime, Pop Art and Surrealism blend together in d'Holbachie's works, an exhibition of which, "My Strange Goddess," opens at AFA on April 29 (www.afanyc.com).

With this show, her most personal body of work to date, d'Holbachie turns her attention to  the feminine, creating portraits of goddesses that are alternately angry, loving, weak and dangerous. The work of d'Holbachie, who was born in Yokohama, has been seen in London, Rome, Los Angeles and Miami. This is her first solo exhibition in the United States.

The opening reception for "My Strange Goddess" will be held on April 28th from 5 to 8 pm, and is free and open to the public (although an RSVP is requested to rsvp@afanyc.com).

AFA is located at 54 Greene Street (corner of Broome Street), in SoHo. Hours are Monday - Saturday, 10am - 7pm and Sundays 11am - 6pm.
