Director Gregory Mosher will make his long awaited return to the Broadway stage with his revival of A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE starring Scarlett Johansson and Liev Schrieber - after 17 years. Having produced more than 200 plays and musicals across the country and directed near 60, Mosher has been noticeably absent from the Great White Way for nearly two decades, since his last showing with A Streetcar Names Desire starring Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin in 1992.
Not that he hasn't been busy. Known for his ability to seamlessly combine "the text, cast, and the the audience," as once stated by frequent Mosher collaborator, David Mamet, the Tony-winning director has since served a six year tenure as the artistic director of the Lincoln Center Theatre, and presently serves as Director of the Columbia University Arts Initiative. In addition to Lincoln Center, he has worked at Goodman Theatres, off-Broadway, at the Royal National Theatre, and in the West End. He is also a film and television director, producer, and writer.
Mosher had long been considering a revival of A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, which he reveals he has never seen on Broadway before (the production originally opened on Broadway in 1955 and received revivals in 1983 and 1997).
A loyalist to Miller (Mosher has been involved with three major Miller productions in his career), most to this revival for Mosher was finding the perfect cast. Says Mosher in the La Times: "Sure, you can cast Al Pacino and Meryl Streep and you can hope that works out for you financially, but that doesn't work for me. I have to do it because I love it." His decision to pull the trigger on A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE was do in large to the participation of Johannson and Schreiber.

In A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, Miller's most passionate drama, Schreiber plays Eddie Carbone, a Brooklyn longshoreman obsessed with his 17-year-old niece Catherine, played by Scarlett Johansson. When Catherine falls in love with a newly arrived immigrant, Eddie's jealousy erupts in a rage that consumes him, his family, and his world.
As for braving a revival of the play so close to the close of it's latest incarnation, Mosher tells the Los Angeles Times that he thinks of "how many young people have grown up since the Soviet Union vanished" and hopes this audicence will be drawn in to see the show.
