The legendary animator and late father of Bugs Bunny, Chuck Jones, will be honored by artist Dick Duerrstein, as he creates a live performance painting at Animazing Gallery for the opening of his latest exhibition. Celebrated Broadway performer Robert Evan will auction off the painting to collectors and guests at the reception, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit the programs of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation. The gala art opening will take place on Saturday, November 20th from 2-6pm. Animazing Gallery is located at 461 Broome Street, between Greene and Mercer. RSVPs are requested. Email Rsvp@animazing.com or call 212-226-7374. The exhibition runs through December 26th. Admission is free.
Duerrstein has been captivating collectors for 15 years with his playful interpretation of beloved animation characters. He was the Creative Director of Walt Disney Studio's Consumer Products Division for 22 years and worked alongside many of the leading animation artists of the 20th Century, including his primary influence, Chuck Jones. Duerrstein's artwork has had a broad spectrum of exposure; illustration, album covers, clothing, as well as fine collectibles like cel portfolios, art glass, and furniture. His latest series of paintings explore the relationship between the drawn line and the personality of the characters made famous by Chuck Jones. Animazing Gallery will premier Duerrstein's original paintings, drawings, and limited edition giclées on canvas. The artist will personally dedicate artwork purchased during the opening day event.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of Duerrstein's art during the exhibition will benefit the programs of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation, which heals autistic children with music. Their technique is based on the belief that music provides a universal language and that every human being has the capacity to respond to music. Musical performer, philanthropist, and father of three, Robert Evan is pleased to take advantage of an opportunity to help disabled children and the community.
