This edition of "A Drinking Game: NYC" lovingly recreates 1993's "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." It's one part live stage reading, one part cult classic film--and more than a dash of alcohol. Actors improvise the script, while both actors and audience drink when favorite buzzwords occur.
The show has appeared in Manhattan at the Producer's Club and Celebration of Whimsy, and has made regular appearances at Brooklyn's Union Hall. Past versions include "Back to the Future," "Three Amigos," "The Goonies," "The Princess Bride," "Ghostbusters," and "Clue."
Co-producer Sam Brewer explains the show's popularity, "I think the one-of-a-kind vibe really excites people. We only do one show a month, with a liquor-free rehearsal, so even we [the producers] don't necessarily know what is going to happen. Every show is unlike the last, and who doesn't enjoy laughing with a beer in hand?"
"A Drinking Game: NYC presents Robin Hood: Men in Tights" features performances by Lucky Gretzinger, Gabriel Lawrence, Thomas Mendolia, Hanley Smith, Cheryl Koski, Dave Klasko, John Garrett Greer, Jeff MacKinnon, Michael Murray, and David Hernandez III.
Mike Thomsen serves as the host/narrator. The producers are Laura Perez and Sam Brewer, prop design is by Katie White, and stage management is by Lydia Lavin.
Brewer adds, "Our greatest success is the family we've built. All of our actors are friends, or friends of friends. Everyone contributes ideas and really cares about making it a great show for the audience.
