The Associated Press reports that A Chorus Line is heading back onto the road with a new tour set to kick off at the Buell Theatre at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts from May 6-17, 2008. The show will then head to the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from May 21-July 6 before heading around the country. Said to be under consideration are cities such as Toronto, Philadelphia, Washington, Seattle and Portland.
A CHORUS LINE is directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian, with Baayork Lee re-staging the original choreography. A Chorus Line was conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, with a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban. The new production features scenery by Robin Wagner, costumes by Theoni V. Aldredge, lighting by Tharon Musser adapted by Natasha Katz and sound by Acme Sound Partners. Musical direction and supervision is by Patrick Vaccariello, orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, Billy Byers and Hershey Kay and vocal arrangements are by Don Pippin. The 2006 Broadway cast recording of A Chorus Line is available in stores nationwide on Masterworks Broadway.
The original production of A Chorus Line won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score and Book, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. It ran for nearly 15 years playing 6,137 performances.
