The 92nd Street Y officially opens its new downtown arts and entertainment center, 92YTribeca, on October 18 with nightlife, daytime programming and an eco-healthy café.  The venue is located at 200 Hudson, at the corner of Canal.

92YTribeca kicks off its programming with “18 Nights of Inspiration” – 18 chances to sample what’s on the nightlife menu between now and December 18.  Opening night – October 18 – features indie rocker and analog-recording fiend John Vanderslice, comedian Michael Showalter, and a screening of Wet Hot American Summer complete with spiked “bug juice” and urban s’mores, followed by an opening-night DJ party.  Coming up are punk-meets-garage girl-band Care Bears on Fire (Nov 6); comedians Aasif Mandvi (on his new movie, Nov 19), Greg Giraldo (on the election, Oct 29), Zach Galifianakis (Dec 10), and Eugene Mirman (Nov 5); a night with the cast of Broadway’s [title of show] hosted by Ira “This American Life” Glass (Nov 5), and “Byte Me,” a series on digital gaming that kicks off with a talk and tournament (Oct 25).

A complete schedule of October events is below; for more information about upcoming events, visit www.92YTribeca.org.

92YTribeca has a mainstage/bar for music, comedy and theater; a 72-seat screening room for films and talks with filmmakers; seminar rooms for classes and conversations on everything from cartooning to politics; an art gallery focusing on local, emerging artists; and an eco-healthy gourmet café with free wireless access; Jewish cultural events and celebrations that are distinctly “downtown;” and one of the friendliest community service programs in the city.

During the day, 92YTribeca offers the adult programming that 92Y is famous for – classes, lectures and events with top-tier experts.  92YTribeca offers classes in watercolor painting, photography and international affairs; breakfast talks on real-life business topics like “crowdsourcing;” noontime talks on everything from Descartes to Botox; tastings and food tours; film screenings and seminars; and a series on evolution and innovation in Modern American Art presented by the Whitney Museum.

Sol Adler, executive director of the 92nd Street Y, says, “With 92YTribeca, we are creating a downtown cultural hub for the 20-something set, where a night out is empowering and inspiring – as well as lots of fun. By day, we hope it will be a home away from home for adults of all ages to learn, socialize, explore – and eat some amazing food.”

Speaking of food… Menu items at Café 92YTribeca are made-to-order, using locally sourced, kosher dairy ingredients: gourmet grilled cheese with sweet onion and fig; Belgian-chocolate egg creams; “92 Hour Pickles,” blueberry lemonade, smoked salmon Reuben, cardamom-infused rice pudding and deviled eggs with wasabi tuna.  The café is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacking.
