Ladies and gentlemen, time for a battle of wits! In one corner: urbane, wealthy American Cole Porter. In the other corner, making his way from genteel poverty to the top of English society: Noël Coward. Guest artistic director Mark Waldrop serves as referee in 92nd Street Y's Lyrics & Lyricists'™ Mad Dogs & Educated Fleas: Noël & Cole, A Battle Of Wits. Interpreting the songs of these two master lyricists are vocalists La Tanya Hall, Jeff Harnar, Edward Hibbert, Colleen McHugh andT. Oliver Reid with special guest Harriet Harris.
L&L has previously featured each of these gentlemen in his own evening, Mark Waldrop says, "it's my hope that in this show, we will get to look at their work – and especially their comic numbers – side by side, and offer a fresh perspective on what made them so great. As a lyricist myself, I can't think of two artists I'd rather celebrate, and I'm thrilled to share the stage with a group of wonderful performers who share my enthusiasm for this material."
L&L shows are Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 2 and 7 pm, and Monday at 2 and 8 pm. Individual tickets begin at $52. There is a special under-35 ticket price of $25 for the Saturday and Sunday evening shows.
These shows are a wonderful complement to the Noël Coward in New York Festival, and other related events in New York.
