Dig Dance Weekend Series | KAZU KUMAGAI: HEAR/HERE

Kazu Kumagai, known for his "powerful athletic technique combined with a riveting clarity" (2016 Bessie Outstanding Performer Award) channels his exceptional rhythmic artistry into the intensity of HEAR/HERE in a to-the-bone performance. The program includes live musicians and guest tappers, including the legendary Brenda Bufalino (2016 Bessie Award for Lifetime Achievement). This is Kazu's return to 92Y after a sell-out performance last season in our Fridays at Noon series.

Choreographers Merián Soto, Noemí Segarra, and Patti Bradshaw investigate the improvisation and performance lineage of experimental dancer Elaine Summers: one of the founding members of the Judson Dance Theater, creator of Kinetic Awareness, and co-founder of Experimental Intermedia Foundation. Includes live performance, archival film, and discussion.

For high school students: This one-of-a-kind, nationwide event for high school students offers talented young dancers the opportunity to connect with renowned faculty and choreographers from colleges across the country, forming personal connections between the current generation of leading dance professionals and the next.
Students can fully explore college dance opportunities and receive guidance in navigating the college admissions process. Programming includes discussion panels with distinguished college department chairs and education specialists, dance classes taught by college dance faculty and a college fair where students network with representatives from over 30 college dance departments from all over the United States. Students can learn about college programs and career opportunities in dance - from professional dancer to dance educator, dance therapist and more. Panel discussions provide practical tips for submitting applications, requesting financial aid, and auditions.
AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT: THE DANCE OF SELF

For Dance Therapists: Authentic Movement is a simple movement form, with potential for great depth. The mover moves with eyes closed, in the presence of a non-judgmental witness. Explore the possibilities for greater self- awareness, meditative and spiritual practice, creative expression and building community.

Join artists from Re:Bourne, the educational arm of his renowned dance company, New Adventures, to deepen your teaching practice. Explore the creative devices, exercises and games - suitable for all ages and abilities - embedded in New Adventures' signature storytelling, characterization and expression. Familiarize yourself with Bourne's new production of The Red Shoes, scheduled for its New York premiere this fall at City Center.
