Cynthia-Reeves has announced that The National September 11 Memorial & Museum has chosen to prominently display Daniel Kohn's "Towards New Jersey" at Cipriani, on Wall Street, during their annual gala today, September 4th, 2012.
The painting is from Kohn's "Seen from Above," a pair of monumental murals commissioned by the MTA to recapture the Eastern and Western views from the upper floors of the Trade Center. All who worked in the Towers experienced these views-breathtaking for their astounding height, the magnitude of the image they framed, and the vibrant city that lay below- as part of their daily routines.Kohn was an artist in residence in Tower One from 1998-1999 as part of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's residency program, 'World Views.' In the spring of 2002, Kohn reconstructed the stunning views on a monumental scale, utilizing sketches, paintings, and observations made during his residency in Tower One. Kohn displayed the paintings, along with an original sound track by Chris Thompson and Howard Harrison, in Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall under the title "Seen from Above, A Place for Contemplation."
