After a year-long sabbatical, 7Eleven Gallery -- known for inviting artists to experiment and exhibit work in unused NYC real estate -- will reopen this Thursday, January 12 in a new space located on 711 Washington St. debuting the work of over 20 artists.

In this comprehensive new presentation, Alchemy, each artist offers a protoscientific approach to their artistic practice. Taking over an entire room, Nick Doyle will present a giant city that destructs under the pressure of a volcano and lightening per the manipulation of a control board that visitors will be prompted to use. Eve Laramee has created an installation comprised of rare Depression-era glassware with traces of radioactivity that are illuminated through the use of a carefully positioned black light. William Stone juxtaposes natural phenomena with earth science in a collaboration with a team of beavers to create the work shown below.

There will be a special music performance by the GAINES Brothers, a duo that performed last year in the first major Off-Broadway revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind. The brothers will perform using handmade instruments constructed from old wooden doors.

ALCHEMY will run through February 18th and feature works from Thomas Beale, Lucas Blalock, Nick Doyle, Adam Fuss, GAINES, Elissa Goldstone, Eve Andrée Laramée, Eva Lewitt, Dylan Lynch, Thomas McDonell, Casey Neistat, Lesley Raeside, Jason Reppert, Alex Rickard, Keith Sonnier, Michael St. John, William Stone, John Torreano, and Rob Wynne.
