63rd Annual Tony Awards To Simulcast Live In Times Square 6/7

The 63rd Annual Tony Awards will be one of the first events to take place in the newly re-designed Times Square. The Tony Awards will be simulcast in its entirety from Radio City Music Hall, to the Clear Channel Spectacolor Screen in Times Square, live on Sunday, June 7th from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

The recently re-designed Times Square includes newly created pedestrian plazas on Broadway from 47th to 42nd Streets. The plazas will provide more than three acres of new public space, allowing seating for up to 2,000 fans in Duffy Square and the surrounding areas for the viewing.

The simulcast will also include the 1-hour, pre-telecast program of the show which includes the presenting of the Creative Arts Awards, which have only been previously available to viewers on www.TonyAwards.com. Katie McGee, entertainment reporter for WCBS-TV will host the simulcast in Duffy Square.

"We're thrilled to announce that The Tony Awards will simulcast the entire Awards show, including the pre-telecast, live from Radio City Music Hall, on June 7th, right in the heart of Times Square," said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League. "This will make Times Square the next-best place to be on Tony night." 

"We invite one and all to join us in Times Square on Sunday evening," said Howard Sherman, executive director of The American Theatre Wing. "Just as the Tony Awards have become an iconic event, we hope that the simulcast in Times Square will become a tradition for theatre fans and families right here in New York City.

For those not in the New York City area, the Tony Awards will be broadcast live in HD, from Radio City Music Hall on CBS, Sunday, June 7th, 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay). The 2009 Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television.

The 2009 Tonys are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. At The Broadway League, Nina Lannan is Chairman and Charlotte St. Martin is Executive Director. At the American Theatre Wing, Theodore S. Chapin is Chairman and Howard Sherman is Executive Director. For Tony Award Productions, Alan Wasser and Allan Williams of Alan Wasser Associates are the General Managers.

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss/White Cherry Entertainment are Executive Producers of the 2009 Tony Awards. Mr. Weiss will also serve as Director of the 2009 Tony Awards.
