59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) announces a special digital exhibition of Donna DeCesare’s multimedia project, "Destiny’s Children: A Legacy of War and Gangs", which will be open for viewing immediately following each the performance of DE NOVO (running April 28 thru May 16). The exhibition is FREE and open to DE NOVO ticket holders. The play, written and directed by Jeffrey Solomon, was part of the American Off-Broadway festival.Donna DeCesare will also be participating in a post-show Talk Back with the cast and creative team following the matinee performance on Sunday, May 2 at 3:30 PM. The Talk Back is sponsored by The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma (http://dartcenter.org).

"Destiny’s Children: A Legacy of War and Gangs" features stories from Donna DeCesare’s identically named web project (found online at http://www.destinyschildren.org), which follows the lives of four young people marked by an experience of war and its aftermath.  As each struggles with circumstance, the lure of gangs and the challenge of limited opportunity in the US and Central America -- the question of fate looms.

Donna DeCesare is widely known for her photographic reportage on the spread of Los Angeles gangs in Central America. Her photographs and testimonies from children in Guatemala and Colombia who are former child soldiers, survivors of sexual abuse, or who live with the stigma of HIV, helped UNICEF to develop protocols for photographing children at risk. DeCesare is a recipient of numerous international awards, fellowships and grants. Her work has been exhibited internationally. Currently a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism, DeCesare is a faculty affiliate with Latin American Studies and is an Advisory Board member for the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. Donna DeCesare is also on the Steering Committee of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia University School of Journalism.

DE NOVO, a play based on the true story of a teenaged boy who faced deportation after fleeing to the US to escape a Guatemalan gang, begins previews on Wednesday, April 28 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 16. The regular performance schedule is Tuesday - Wednesday at 7:30 PM; Thursday – Friday at 8:30 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM & 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM.
