54 Sings AS THOUSANDS CHEER At Feinstein's/54 Below

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents 54 Sings As Thousands Cheer on May 24, 2018 at 9:30 PM. Before there was SNL, The Daily Show, and Last Week Tonight, there was As Thousands Cheer, Irving Berlin and Moss Hart's famed musical revue. Opening on Broadway in September 1933, As Thousands Cheer brought laughter and joy to audiences at the Music Box Theatre. Now, 85 years after its Broadway premiere and 20 years since its last production in New York, Feinstein's/54 Below and a cast of New York's finest perform Irving Berlin's score. With classic songs including "Easter Parade," "How's Chances?," "Heat Wave," and "Harlem On My Mind," As Thousands Cheer will be a delightful evening of comedy, politics, showstopping songs, and everything in between!

Irving Berlin (Music & Lyrics) With a life that spanned more than 100 years and a catalogue that boasted over 1000 songs, Irving Berlin epitomized Jerome Kern's famous maxim that "Irving Berlin has no place in American music -- he is American music." Including AS THOUSANDS CHEER, he wrote scores to 13 Broadway musicals, contributed to seven revues, and wrote songs for 12 classic Hollywood movie musicals. Born in Russia, he immigrated to the Lower East Side, where he started as a singing waiter and soon became a lyricist, composer and music publisher. He built the Music Box Theater to house his Music Box Revues. Among his more than 1,200 songs, many of which are considered classics today, is "God Bless America," for which he established a fund which receives all revenues from the song and distributes it to the Boy and Girl Scouts.

Moss Hart (sketches) began his career as a playwright, director and producer in 1930 when, with George S. Kaufman, he wrote ONCE IN A LIFETIME. Subsequent Kaufman and Hart successes include MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU and THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, among others. In collaboration with Irving Berlin, he wrote FACE THE MUSIC and AS THOUSANDS CHEER. In solo efforts, he scored personal triumphs with JUBILEE, LIGHT UP THE SKY and LADY IN THE DARK, which he also directed. His directorial credits include MY FAIR LADY, CAMELOT, and WINGED VICTORY, which he also wrote. Among his screen credits are A Star Is Born (for Judy Garland), Gentleman's Agreement, and Hans Christian Anderson (for Danny Kaye). His autobiography Act One topped the best-seller list for 40 weeks.
