For the fourth year in a row, the world's largest solo theatre festival will bring selected performances to Warsaw, Poland for its showcase, United Solo Europe. A different show will be presented each night June 27 - July 3 at Teatr Syrena, a premier theatre venue in downtown Warsaw. Diverse offerings include a movement show featuring poems about human anatomy, a concert by a Polish-Italian singer, and an improvised comedy with audience participation. The festival will culminate with an original solo dance show created by this year's special guests, dancers from the world-renowned Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.
The artistic director of United Solo in New York,
Omar Sangare, in collaboration with the managing director of Teatr Syrena, Jakub Biegaj, and the artistic director of Teatr Syrena, Wojciech Malajkat, curated an original lineup of shows especially for European audiences. Most of the shows will be performed in English with Polish translation, which makes United Solo Europe a unique event for audiences seeking culturally diverse theatre, as well as for expat communities, and for discerning and adventurous theatre enthusiasts. United Solo Europe participants will also teach workshops for theatre apprentices.
In the past four years, United Solo Europe created its own place on Warsaw's theatrical map, bringing award-winning works by international performers from the U.S., Japan, Germany, Finland, Sweden, and elsewhere. One year, the festival was inaugurated by
Fiona Shaw, a United Solo Special Award winner, who offered memorable remarks on the importance of solo theatre. The festival has become a world-class theatrical experience, and observes a steady growth in popularity and media attention.
