4th Annual TeatroStageFest Arrives in NYC, Runs 6/17-30

The Latino International Theater Festival of New York, Inc. (LITF/NY) announced that the 4th Annual TeatroStageFest will take place June 17-30, 2010, featuring six acclaimed local and international productions, free outdoor performances, children/family events, play readings and multi-media and Clowning workshops.

Produced by LITF/NY, a not-for-profit organization that promotes Latino Theater in New York, TeatroStageFest is the most prominent Latino theater festival in the northeastern United States.

Highlights of TeatroStageFest 2010 include productions in English, Spanish and visual theater, with no spoken dialogue:
*From Argentina, Fulanos ("Everyman") - a dazzling exploration of human nature in a tour-de-force performance by La Arena's circus troupe of acrobatic actors on six ladders.

Shows: Friday, June 25th at 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 26th at 7:30 pm. Visual theater.

Venue: Heckscher Theater at Museo del Barrio located at: 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street
Manhattan

*From Spain, m³- A NoSpace Odissey - You think your New York apartment is too small? Wait until you see this comical fringe masterpiece in which a city dweller must learn to live in the largest apartment he can afford: a one cubic meter size box.

Shows: Thursday, June 24th, Friday June 25th, Saturday, June 26th All shows at 9:00 pm. Visual theater.

Venue: IATI Theater located at: 64 East 4th Street (Bet' 3rd and 2nd Avenues) Manhattan

*From Brazil, Animals of Brazil - A Brazilian carnival of exotic birds, dancing monkeys and proud pumas. The jungle comes to life in this awe-inspiring TeatroStageFamily puppetry show with music and choreography for children ages 4 or more.

Shows: Saturday, June 26th 2:00 pm at Heckscher Theater at Museo del Barrio located at: 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street Manhattan. Visual theater.

Sunday, June 27th at 2:00 pm at Queens Zoo (by the sea lions) 53-51 111th Street, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. Visual theater.

**From Peru/NYC, Oh! Yantay - A colorful family-friendly adaptation of the classic Inca tale of Ollantay, considered the first play to be performed in the Americas.

Shows: Saturday, June 19th at 11:30 am. In Spanish.

Venue: Instituto Cervantes located at: 211 East 49 Street (bet' 2nd and 3rd Avenues) Manhattan

***From NYC, I Want You By My Side - An all-teen cast stars in Tere Martínez's new play about a college freshman who's on top of the world, until she is forced to face the possibility that she may be HIV positive.

Shows: Wednesday, June 23rd at 8:00 pm, Sunday, June 27th at 3:00 pm. In English.

Venue: IATI Theater located at 64 East 4th Street (Bet' 3rd and 2nd avenues) Manhattan

***From Brazil, Isadora.Orb: The Final Metaphor - What would happen if NASA decided to send to outer space a module ship with theater, music, dance and video artists? Discover it in this stunning multimedia exploration about creating art in outer space.

Shows: Thursday, June 24th, Friday, June 25th and Saturday, June 26th. All shows at 7:00 pm. In English.

Venue: IATI Theater located at 64 East 4th Street (between 3rd and 2nd avenue)

Single tickets to TeatroStageFest range from $10.00 to $20.00. The Festival also offers group discounts and two-show discount passes to view two different shows in one day, with access to TeatroStageLounge. Other FREE programming at TeatroStageFest 2010 includes: Day of the Spanish Language, an Instituto Cervantes world-wide celebration, a concert by Chico Mann on the rooftop of El Museo del Barrio, Spain's Contemporary Dramaturgy and The Authors' Voice, two series of staged readings by the best Iberian and Latino playwrights, and multimedia and clowning Workshops that will be led by visiting directors and performers.
