This November, FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade presents the Third Annual Gotham Storytelling Festival. With personal narratives and even one fictional story, this year's festival promises to break the mould and bring you stories that are both intensely individual and strikingly universal. In addition to handpicked performers from the vibrant New York storytelling scene, the festival will feature "Best in Show," an open mic hosted by Brad Lawrence and a panel discussion on the Future of Storytelling. Don't miss out on five days of stories that will make you want to laugh, cry and hear more.
Tickets ($15; $12 students & seniors) are available online at www.horseTRADE.info.
The Dark Fantastic Written & Performed by Martin Dockery Wednesday, November 5 @ 7pm
In a performance unlike any other, Dockery tells the tale of three characters who collide during a car crash in the desert, revealing a world that's as fantastical as it is comically mundane and as terrifying as it is alive with wonder.
Awesome People Presented by Nefarious Laboratory Wednesday, November 5 @ 9pm
Moth favorite Brad Lawrence and two time FringeNYC award winner Cyndi Freeman have asked their friends from the New York storytelling community to share stories about people who inspire them; historical figures, family members & ancestors, mentors or that guy that your friend told you about, these are tales of legendary individuals; well known and unknown, the awesome people who make us want to be more awesome.
$1800 Written & Performed by David Crabb Thursday, November 6 @ 7pm
So, I found $1800 in cash. With a little detective work I might be able to find its rightful owner. But will I? Why should I? What bad could possibly happen if I hold onto it for a little while? A lot.
The Story Collider Created by Ben Lillie, Hosted by Ben Lillie and Erin Baker Thursday, November 6 @ 8:30pm
Science surrounds us. Even when we don't notice it, science touches almost every part of our lives. At the Story Collider, we believe that everyone has a story about science-a story about how science made a difference, affected them, or changed them on a personal and emotional level. In our Gotham Storytelling Festival show, four storytellers will share hilarious, moving, or earth-shattering stories of life-altering science.
Best in Show: Not Just Another Open Mic Hosted by Brad Lawrence, Produced by Blaise Allysen Kearsley Friday, November 7 @ 6pm
Get a chance to tell a 5-minute story and receive friendly, constructive feedback from a panel of three seasoned storytellers who may or may not be liquored up at any given time during the show. No scores just shop talk. At night's end, someone will be crowned "Best in Show" and receive fabulous prizes. (Probably just verbal accolades and a bag of chocolates from Duane Reade. Maybe Rite-Aid.) Also, there may be other surprises. We don't know. We're just making this shit up as we go along.
Drawn Out Storytelling Friday, November 7 @ 8pm
Where storytellers get drawn! Drawn Out combines personal narrative with visual and musical elements to make a whole much greater than the sum of the parts. We ask storytellers, comic book artists, and musicians to come together to attempt to tell a single story - to immerse the audience in the tides of personal narrative.
Future of Storytelling Panel Saturday, November 8 @ 5pm

Improvised Storytelling Directed by Erin Baker Saturday, November 8 @ 8:30pm
Eight distinguished storytellers from across the New York scene will perform a storytelling show that has never been seen before and will never be seen again. Starting with a suggestion from the audience, they will improvise their true, personal stories, tagging each other out in a wild storytelling free-for-all. Are you ready for this shit?
Adam Wade From New Hampshire Written & Performed by Adam Wade Monday, November 10 @ 7pm An evening of stories about growing up in New Hampshire and living the dream in NYC from 18-time Moth StorySLAM winner Adam Wade, one of the premiere storytellers in New York City.
Daddy Issues Written & Performed by Peter Aguero Monday, November 10 @ 9pm
I'd been telling stories about many parts of my life and realized that I had a pretty complete arc of stories related to the tumultuous relationship between my father and I. I've collected 7 of those stories and made them into a show. It's always a work in progress as the relationship is still ongoing. Until he dies, at which point, I will most likely dance on his grave.
