31st Annual Richmond County Fair Held Labor Day Weekend

Presented by Time Warner Cable, the 31st Annual Richmond County Fair is the longest running county fair in New York City and will take place this year on Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (September 4th, 5th, and 6th), Historic Richmond Town will be offering visitors three whole days filled with fun, food, crafts, headline entertainment, and old-time contests. Some of these contests can be entered right up until the time they begin, while others require pre-registration.

CONTESTS THAT CAN BE ENTERED RIGHT BEFORE THEY BEGIN ("EVENT DAY CONTESTS")

ü The Diaper Derby (for infants & toddlers)

ü The Shopping Cart Scurry

ü The Hula Hoop Contest

ü The Potato Sack Race

ü The Three-Legged Race

ü The Water Balloon Toss

ü The Costumed Canine Contest

ü The Pie-Eating Contest

ü The Hot Dog-Eating Contest


CONTESTS THAT SHOULD (or MUST) BE ENTERED IN ADVANCE ("PRE-REGISTRATION CONTESTS")

ü The Baking Contest (Sponsored by Holtermann's Bakery) Adult and youth bakers (ages 16 and younger) are invited to compete in six delicious categories: Pies, Cookies, Muffins, Cakes, Brownies, and Baker's Choice.

ü The Flower & Vegetable Contest Gardeners of all ages are invited to compete in almost 30 different classes ranging from annuals to edibles.

ü The Photography Contest (Sponsored by EM Photo Services) This year's categories are Staten Island Life, Pets, Nature, Historic Richmond Town, and America the Beautiful.

ü The Baby Photo Contest (Sponsored by EM Photo Services) Awards for Most Beautiful Baby and for Most Humorous Baby will be given.

There's something for everyone this Labor Day weekend (including the family dog), so be sure to put your best paw forward and take home a prize at this year's Richmond County Fair!
