Day 21 Just Like Magic
By Christopher W. Barnes
Book and Lyrics
Hi, Christopher T. Magician here. People always say to me, "Christopher, you are the modern era's single greatest magician. But who is Christopher T. Magician?" So for the the readers of Broadwayworld.com I thought I would give you a brief history of the man behind the lime green tie!
After my father, the King of Siam, died and left some feminist chick in charge, I was sent to an orphanage in NYC. It was there I was rescued from the slums by another eccentric bald man.
Like all spoiled trust fund hipsters, I ended up an artist in alphabet city. When my former roommate so rudely started charging me rent for my giant loft (and I spent my entire trust fund on a rare and exotic plant), I ended up back on the streets.
I swear, you steal one loaf of bread to survive, and some French dude follows you around the rest of your life. Seriously, French dude, get a hobby. Perhaps astronomy?
It was inevitable that I would fall in love with a Puerto Rican girl and die in a horrible ballet-like gang fight.
But I didn't.
Instead, my friends -- the ones who hadn't been eaten by that rare and exotic plant -- and I formed a Supremes-like Motown trio. When they replaced me with a younger, skinnier version of me, I chopped them up and baked them into pies.
Anyhoo, to make a long story short, I now do birthday party magic shows around New York City, which inspired me to write Just Like Magic, my decidedly not-for-kids musical magical extravaganza, opening at NYMF this October!
