An Enemy of the People, Patriots, and The Heart of Rock and Roll play their final performances today, June 23, 2024.
Today, June 23, 2024, Broadway says goodbye to two limited-run productions and one open-run production. An Enemy of the People takes its final bow at the Circle in the Square Theatre following 23 previews and 112 regular performances; Patriots will conclude its run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre following 21 previews and 72 regular performances; and The Heart of Rock and Roll closes at the James Earl Jones Theatre following 24 previews and 72 regular performances.
The venues will soon be home to Romeo + Juliet and Our Town respectively. A new production has not yet been announced for the James Earl Jones Theatre. Before the end of June, three more Broadway shows will play their final performances.
This production of Henrik Ibsen’s thunderous masterwork An Enemy of the People, was adapted by Tony Award Nominee Amy Herzog, directed by Tony Award Winner Sam Gold, began performances on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, and officially opened Monday, March 18, 2024, at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre.

Set in 1987 and jam-packed with Huey Lewis megahits like “Do You Believe in Love”, “Hip to Be Square” , and “If This Is It,” The Heart of Rock and Roll centers on a couple of twenty-somethings on the cusp of their futures—Bobby, a rock and roller who’s traded his guitar for the corporate ladder and his boss Cassandra who’s always put the family business first. When they both get a second shot at their dreams, it’ll take “The Power of Love” and a little help from their friends — to figure out what kind of life they really want.
