On Wednesday, March 22, 7pm, the 29th Street Playwrights Collective and Goddard Riverside will join theaters, playwrights, directors and actors throughout the US and Canada who have united during Women's History Month to present THE FUTURE IS FEMALE FESTIVAL, a national series of staged readings and productions of 10-minute plays written by women of all backgrounds on the subject "The Future is Female" and what that means to them.

The evening will consist of 9 short plays presented as staged readings with topics ranging from women pitchers in the Negro Leagues, to Giant Pandas, to teenagers on video games. The readings will be directed by Jess Bauman (Wordplay Shakespeare), Anna Lathrop (The Muse Project), Cristina Lundy (The Rape of Lucrece/NY Shakespeare Exchange), and Suzanne Willett (Maria's Song/Dixon Place).

The ensemble cast includes Michelle Agresti, AnDrew Barrett, Cara Feuer, Kim Gambino, Megan Kelly, Bianca Leigh, Krystel Lucas, Mario Merone, Kyle Minshew, Pamela Monroe, Hannah Roze, Tracie Tolmaire, and Karen Wight.

Playwrights include Liz Duffy Adams, Melissa Bell, Eugenie Carabatsos, Cyn Cooper, Sharon E Cooper, Gina Femia, Francesca Pazniokas, Robin Rice, and Julie Richardson. Production are Emma Goldman-Sherman and Melissa Bell with Stage Management by Heather Bagnall.

The FUTURE IS FEMALE FESTIVAL has 26 outposts in 18 cities across the US and Canada, with several outposts in New York City Metro area. The festival is created and produced by Mya Kagan, co-produced by Lauren Orkus, with Social Media Manager Sarah Cosgrove.

"Instead of spending March celebrating women's history, we'll celebrate women's futures," says festival creator and writer Mya Kagan of New York.

In addition, the Festival has launched another way to participate: Anyone can create a pop-up festival using 10-minute plays available for download through the festival website.

"It's a way for people to be involved throughout the festival month even if there isn't an outpost event near them. They can sign up on our website and invite friends over to have a casual play reading in their own living rooms, church basement or college dorm," says Kagan.
