Today we are kicking off BroadwayWorld's 2013 Tony Awards Clip Countdown with a special spotlight focused on the nominees for this year's big, big show as we look ahead to the 2013 Tony Awards - Broadway's biggest night - on Sunday, June 9, on CBS!
Everybody Say Yeah!
The dynamic divas and devos of KINKY BOOTS - say "Yeah!" - to the assortment of pre-adolescents populating MATILDA; the persuasive charms of the circus-themed revival of PIPPIN to the magical, re-imagined Rodgers & Hammerstein world of CINDERELLA; to say nothing of the tremendous dramatic and comedic turns in plays like LUCKY GUY, THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES, VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE and THE NANCE, to name but a few - the 2012-2013 Broadway season has been filled with fabulous performances and star-making turns. But, the primary question on everyone's lips along the Great White Way these days is who will take home top honors on Tony night? As for musicals, KINKY BOOTS and MATILDA lead the nominations for new musicals and the category is filled out by the now-closed screen-to-stage adaptations - and both limited engagements - BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL and A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL, while PIPPIN and CINDERELLA battle it out in the Best Revival category, along with ANNIE and THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. As for plays, new dramas and comedies nominated and leading the pack are LUCKY GUY, THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES and VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, with shuttered THE TESTAMENT OF MARY included, as well. WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? and THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL lead Best Revival Of A Play nominations, along with GOLDEN BOY and ORPHANS.The Nominees
