On Sunday November 14, Michael Bottari & Ronald Case will be honored with the 2010 NYMF Award for Excellence in Overall Design for "Shine!". The Awards ceremony will take place at the The Hudson Theatre (145 W. 44th Street) beginning at 6:00pm.
"SHINE" The Horatio Alger Musical with a book by Richard Seff; Music by Roger Dean Anderson and Lyrics by Lee Goldsmith has also been honored with OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE: Andy Mientus, and HONORABLE MENTION: Peter Flynn for Direction.
"Four Rough Crates that symbolize the boxes that the shoe shine boy Dick Hunter lived in and an 1876 Postcard Backdrop was the entire design as the rules require that the set needed to be set up and struck in 30 minutes. Costumes were limited to fitting on two racks.Michael Bottari & Ronald Case (Set and Costume Designers) were nominated for the 2006 & 2008 Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, & American Theatre Wing Awards for FANNY HILL & DIE MOMMIE DIE , and won the 2003 & 2008 Lucille Lortel Award for Costume design for "SHANGHAI MOON" & "DIE MOMMIE DIE". Their costumes for the critically acclaimed feature film "DIE MOMMIE DIE" starring Charles Busch won several film design awards. They created original designs for the South African HAIRSPRAY. They have been a design team for over 40 years, having done both sets and costumes for Broadway: Rodgers & Hammerstein's much loved STATE FAIR (Producer David Merrick's last Broadway show) ,PRINCE OF CENTRAL PARK, and most recently Marc Shaiman's "PROP 8, THE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY". Off-Broadway: AFTER THE FAIR, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, LITTLE ME, CARNIVAL!, RICHARD CORY, OPAL, MAN WHO SHOT LINCOLN, FANNY HILL etc. Two premiere ballets for ABT and currently working on the new terrorist musical "THE ROAD TO QATAR".
