2010 BC/EFA Flea Market Raises $476,917; Beats 2009!

The 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction held yesterday Sunday, September 26, raised a grand total of $476,917 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).

Since its debut in 1987, which then raised $12,000, the 24 editions of The Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction have raised a grand total of $8,638,669 for BC/EFA.

The Flea Market and Grand Auction is an annual fair in which Broadway, Off-Broadway and other members of the theatrical community donate and sell their wares to benefit BC/EFA. The event also included the Celebrity Table, where celebrities gathered throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for photos in exchange for donations. The climax of the day was the Grand Auction in which truly unique and priceless items are auctioned off live to the highest bidder.

This year, there were 72 tables which raised a collective $239,342. The booths that raised the most money this year were the booths hosted by the Broadway show Wicked ($19,834) and "Broadway Beat" ($12,171).

Broadway and daytime stars made appearances at the Autograph Table and Celebrity Photo Booths, which was emceed by Jim Caruso and raised $9,765. Dozens of stars donated their time and support to the tables including: Kate Baldwin, Bryan Batt, PJ Benjamin, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, Mario Cantone, Kathleen Chalfant, Kristin Chenoweth, Terri Colombino, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Jason Danieley, Ellen Dolan, Richard Easton, Malcolm Gets, Mandy Gonzalez, Montego Glover, Julie Halston, Ann Harada, Sean Hayes, Jessica Hecht, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Matthew Hydzik, Gregory Jbara, Cherry Jones, Andy Karl, Chad Kimball, Levi Kreis, Dan Lauria, Aaron Lazar, Judith Light, Robert Britton Lyons, Lorna Luft, David Andrew MacDonald, Andrea McArdle, Marin Mazzie, Jerry Mitchell, Julia Murney, Donna Murphy, Bebe Neuwirth, Phyllis Newman, Kelli O'Hara, Denis O'Hare, Orfeh, Austin Peck, Anthony Rapp, Vanessa Ray, Alice Ripley, Carole Shelley, Jordin Sparks, Elizabeth Stanley, Bobby Steggert, John Tartaglia, Patrick Wilson, Julie White, Colleen Zenk.

This year's Silent Auction included 114 items and raised $55,925. The top item sold was an A Little Night Music "Soon" musical phrase, handwritten and signed by Stephen Sondheim that went for $3,500. Other top earners were a Wicked "For Good" musical phrase, handwritten and signed by Stephen Schwartz that went for $2,900, and a 2009 Broadway Season photo taken by Mark Seliger for Vanity Fair, signed by all participants including Geoffrey Rush, Joan Allen, Marcia Gay Harden, Jeremy Irons, James Gandolfini, Matthew Broderick, Jeff Daniels, Nathan Lane, Susan Sarandon, Bill Irwin and more, that went for $2,000.

This year's grand auction which featured longtime BC/EFA auctioneer Lorna Kelly and actor Bryan Batt (TV's "Mad Men") featured 44 "lots" which raised $126,650. The top-selling lot was a walk-on role in the Broadway show Wicked that when for $16,500. Other top earners were opening night tickets and party passes for How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe that went for $10,000 and a tank top worn by Daniel Craig in A Steady Rain, signed by Craig and Hugh Jackman, that went for $6,500.

Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation's leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised over $195 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.

BC/EFA also awards annual grants to more than 400 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide and is the major supporter of seven programs at The Actors Fund, including The HIV/AIDS Initiative, The Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, The Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic and more.
