2006 Tony Awards Mark Ratings Increase

The Tony Awards, which aired on CBS last night, saw a ratings increase of 20% from 2005, with an increase in viewers of 1.39 million, making this year's telecast the highest rated since 2003.

Over 60 stars from stage and screen including Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Anna Paquin, Cynthia Nixon, Julie Andrews, Hank Azaria, Harry Belafonte, Glenn Close, Harry Connick, Jr., Bernadette Peters, Rosie Perez graced the stage at Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Tony Awards.

From 8:00-11:00PM, the 60th Annual Tony Awards finished second in households (5.3/09) and viewers (7.79m).

Compared to the Tony Awards last year, this year's event was up +18% in households (from 4.5/08), +12% in adults 25-54 (1.9/05 from 1.7/04), even in adults 18-49 (1.4/04) and added +1.29m viewers (from 6.50m, +20%).

The 2006 awards marked the best delivery for the Tony Awards since 2003 in households and viewers and best in adults 25-54 since 2004.
