2006 Lucille Lortel Award Nominations Announced

The League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers announced today announced the nominations for the 21st Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway, which will be presented on Monday, May 1st at New World Stages (formerly Dodger Stages, 340 West 50th Street) at 7 PM. A celebration will follow at Ruth's Chris Steak House (148 West 51st Street).

A cocktail reception to congratulate all of the nominees will be held on Monday, April 17th at therapy (348 West 52nd Street). Four special awards will also be presented: the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Wendy Wasserstein, the Edith Oliver Award for Sustained Excellence to Betty Corwin, Outstanding Body of Work to the Atlantic Theater Company, and for John Patrick Shanley, an induction into the Playwrights' Sidewalk.

The 2006 Lucille Lortel Awards voting committee is appointed by the League of Off-Broadway Theatres & Producers, the Lucille Lortel Foundation, Actors' Equity Association, and the Society of Stage Directors & Choreographers, and includes journalists, educators, and members of the Off-Broadway community.

Awarded since 1986, the Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the League by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Foundation. Additional support is provided by Theatre Development Fund.

Of this season's shows, Abigail's Party was nominated for 8 awards, The Trip to Bountiful for 7, Grey Gardens for 5 and The Lieutenant of Inishmore and The Seven for 4.
