The Greater Baltimore Theater Awards for 2005 were announced today. Everyman Theatre's Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune and Rep Stage's Kimberly Akimbo were the biggest winners with 3 awards each, including both productions being named Outstanding Play of the year. Everyman Theatre also won awards for its production of Yellowman and its co-production (with Rep Stage) of The Children's Hour. Other multiple winners include Fells Point Corner Theatre and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, with 2 awards each. The complete list of winners follows.
Each year, local theatre patrons nominate productions for possible nominations. A committee then sees each nominated play and generates a list of nominees. 3 awards are given for Outstanding Play, Actress, Actor and Direction. One award is given for Scene Design, Costume Design and Experimental Production. All nominees must have been produced in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County or Howard County, and the cast must be comprised of at least 50% Maryland Residents in order to be eligible.
