1st Annual Williams Fest Begins Sept. 28 in Provincetown

The first annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, a four-day festival dedicated to examining and celebrating Williams' deep connection to Provincetown, will be begin September 28. The festival will run through October 1.

The festival is aimed at, "Celebrating the famed playwright's life, loves, and accomplishments. A variety of Provincetown venues will be used. Festival highlights include:

There will be:

--The world premiere of an unpublished Tennessee Williams one-act play, The Parade or Approaching the End of a Summer.
--Ryan Landry's new parody Plexi-glass Menagerie, performed by members of The Gold Dust Orphans.
--Jeremy Lawrence's channeling of Tennessee Williams and hosting of Baby Doll.
--Yellowbird, a short film directed by Faye Dunaway, based on the story by Tennessee Williams.
--Andre Previn's opera of A Streetcar Named Desire, performed by Capitol City Opera Company, a non-profit national touring opera troupe based in Atlanta, Georgia

Both The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire were written during Williams' time in Provincetown.

There are already three other Williams Festivals, one in New Orleans that celebrates his deep connection to the south, and others in Clarksdale and Columbus, Mississippi, that celebrate the writer's roots.
