13th Annual Latin American Cultural Week(s) Brings Theater, Music, Dance, Film, Literature, & Visual Arts Events to New York City

Pan American Musical Art Research (PAMAR), founded in 1984 by Uruguayan-born pianist Polly Ferman, now Artistic Director of PAMAR, presents the 13th Annual Latin American Cultural Week(s) (LACW), November 13 through 21, 2018. (Additional events precede & follow official dates.) In support of the #MeToo #Yo También movement, we feature women artists of the Americas. Polly Ferman, states 'I don't know the figures of how many women do not have their rights or are not recognized in Latin America or in the U.S., but one woman not respected or appreciated is too much. That's why we feature this year Latin American Women in the Arts, and support the #MeToo #YoTambién movement."

LACW 2018 includes the 7th year of Celebración de la Cultura Hispana in Manhattan's Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods. LACW 2018 is a diverse and dynamic showcase of the rich culture of Latin America & Spain throughout New York City, with 30+ theater, music, dance, film, literary, and visual arts presentations. PAMAR produces, co-produces, or co-promotes LACW events. Increasingly, artists, arts groups, organizations, & governments plan their NYC events to coincide with LACW. LACW 2018 will also include Shall We Tango NYC, a citywide international tango festival of performances, workshops, dance classes and lectures related to this artform. The evening will also feature the New York debut of indigenous singer/guitarist/percussionist Maryta de Humahuaca from Jujuy, Argentina. With sounds of the Andean box (an Andean drum) she sings coplas ("couplets") and bagualas (folk music originating in NE Argentina) referring to the seasons and ceremonies that accompany the earth's life cycle. Annette Nancarrow's Art and Life Morris-Jumel Mansion, 65 Jumel Terrace, Manhattan Free Admission This workshop is part of the Mexican performance artist Cynthia Granados Posada's ongoing commitment to rescuing the stories of women artists who were sometimes overshadowed by men.
