The protagonist of "Yerma" is an unhappy woman who lives locked up in an unsatisfactory marriage. Woman dumps his desires in conceiving a child and on their reflections and suffering is built step by step the tragedy. Eager to get rid of the rigidities imposed the woman, the protagonist is intended to cope with their environment, a Spanish of early 20th century town.
García Lorca carried out in this work a wonderful identification of the problematic existence of the women of her time, and also perfectly describe a society in their spatio-temporal coordinates, overturned their concerns on the problems posed by the feminine identity. The great Margarita Xirgú was the first to interpret the tormented protagonist.
The version of "Yerma" also has the music of Enrique Morente, which adds a new dimension to the tragedy.
