The Pearl Fishers at Teatro Colón

Together with Carmen, this is the most popular of Bizet’s operas. The plot revolves around themes like love, loyalty, friendship and individual sacrifice in pursuit of common good. The great fraternity duo Au fond du temple saint is one of the most famous fragments of French opera and the aria Je crois entendre encore is known for its sad, nostalgic evocation. Even though this is one of the usual repertoire pieces staged by the main opera houses, it was scheduled only once at Teatro Colón in the 1913 season.
