VIVA LA VIDA at Lola Membrives
Viva la vida is a new musical playing in Argentina. For those who want to remember the 70s and can sing along to Palito Ortega and Chico Novarro songs, here's a story that will take them back in time.
The story begins by introducing us to six friends in their thirties who make a pact during New Year's Eve: they promise that as soon as they start getting older, they will move to a house outside of Buenos Aires and take care of each other for whatever life has left in store for them.
That moment arrives forty years later. They move and we find them in their house, getting ready for another new year's eve. After several months of coexistence, the death of one of the friends in the group triggers a series of situations in which they will discover secrets, dreams and fuzzy memories that will finally strengthen the bond between them.
The cast is led by Nora Cárpena, Rodolfo Ranni, Mercedes Carreras, Alberto Martin, Marta Bianchi and Jorge Martinez and completed by renowned names in the musical genre: Natalia Cociuffo, Christian Giménez, Andrea Lovera, Emmanuel Robredo Ortiz, Lula Rosenthal, Ivanna Rossi, Liza Spadone and Patricio Wittis. The creative team is composed by Valeria Ambrosio, who not only wrote the book but also directed the show, Matías Chapiro as the musical director, Elizabeth de Chaperouge, René Diviú and Alfredo Miranda.
In a colorful house, the aesthetics of the younger characters accomplish the goal of letting us travel in time, and the contrast between their past-selves and their current selves is remarkable to say the least. Songs that became 1970s classics are beautifully arranged and sang.
You can see Viva la Vida from Wednesday to Sunday at the Lola Membrives theatre.
