This summer, listeners to Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network stations will hear some new voices and find some old favorites at new times, including The Kathleen Dunn Show heard on WHAD 90.7FM in Milwaukee. WPR will make some changes to its weekday and weekend schedules beginning July 1st to better serve listeners and respond to program changes made by NPR.
"When NPR announced the end of Talk of the Nation this spring, we saw an opportunity to review the entire schedule and strengthen programming overall," Sheryl Gasser, WPR's Ideas Network Director, said. Changes include the addition of four new shows: WPR's own Central Time on weekday afternoons and three nationally Syndicated shows - America's Test Kitchen Radio, TED Radio Hour and Snap Judgment. The schedule features new times for several popular shows, including The Kathleen Dunn Show and On Point.
"We understand that these changes will be significant for some listeners," Gasser said. While numerous programs have been shifted on the schedule, the only shows that will no longer be available to listeners are WPR's At Issue and NPR's Talk of the Nation. "We've done our best to serve fans of those shows with a mix of statewide and national talk programs on weekdays including Central Time in the afternoons, which features a mix of news, culture and ideas with a distinctly Wisconsin personality," Gasser added. Central Time will be co-hosted by Rob Ferrett and Veronica Rueckert and air Monday throughFriday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Kathleen Dunn Show will replace Talk of the Nation Monday through Thursday at 1:00 p.m. According to Gasser, Dunn's approach to issues will be a great fit for fans of Talk of the Nation. "Kathleen offers a mix of conversations on topics of Wisconsin and national interest," she added. And, for listeners who miss hearing from voices across the country, On Point with Tom Ashbrook will now broadcast live at 9:00 a.m.
America's Test Kitchen Radio, which will air Sundays at 10:00 a.m., is a weekly show filled with clear, practical cooking information, without the gourmet fuss. Host Chris Kimball will introduce listeners to people that approach food and cooking from unique and useful perspectives. TED Radio Hour, hosted by NPR veteran Guy Raz on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Each episode includes excerpts from the renowned TED Talks plus guest interviews. Snap Judgment, which will air on Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. with host Glynn Washington, tells intriguing stories about extraordinary and defining events in people's lives.
"Serving our listeners and the people of Wisconsin is our top priority and so we don't take changes like these lightly," noted Mike Crane, WPR Director. "We're excited about the new schedule because it offers a terrific balance of old favorites and new voices," he added.
