The Boldt Arts Alive! Series at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is a round-trip ticket to explore cultures from around the world in March. A series devoted to culturally rich performing arts presentations features customs from the rural mountains of Japan with Shidara's high-energy taiko drumming on March 5, Mexican folklore and dance traditions on with Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández on March 10 and the finest Russian ballet on March 19 with The Tchaikovsky Ballet Theatre's Sleeping Beauty.

Shidara's high-energy taiko performance on Friday, March 5 draws inspiration from the 700 year-old Hana Matsuri festival of Toei, a small village in the pristine mountains of Japan. As the community's young people flock to Japan's major cities and commerce centers to pursue economic opportunities, Shidara works to preserve the unique culture of their local village through the performing arts. Shidara's director, Nishitani Mayumi san, explains Shidara's local connection saying, "It is not only a wonderful culture to us. It is the continuation of long ago into the future, it is human being to human being, learning from one another. In this way, Hana Matsuri remains." Shidara's powerful taiko drumming, flute melodies and dance will fill Thrivent FinanciAl Hall with the sounds and rhythms of Shidara's cultural traditions. Tickets start at $15.

On March 10, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández returns to the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center translating the beauty of Mexican folklore traditions into fantastically staged choreography. With stunning costumes and rich ornamentation, Ballet Folklórico's world-renowned, award-winning ensemble delivers an enchanted cultural experience that mesmerizes audiences of all ages in a web of Mexican history and customs. Tickets start at $15.

On March 19, The Tchaikovsky Ballet Theatre offers an exceptional evening of traditional ballet and the classic story of Sleeping Beauty. When a wicked fairy's curse plunges Princess Aurora into a 100-year sleep, the good lilac fairy attempts to lure a handsome prince to her rescue. With the dancing excellence of award-winning Russian ballet dancers and familiar fairytale characters, this show is perfectly suited for the beginning ballerina, the first-time ticket holder and ballet aficionados alike. Tickets for this family-friendly event start at $20.

Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández is locally supported by AZCO INC., and Shidara is supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts with additional contributions from Wisconsin Arts Board, General Mills Foundation, and Land O'Lakes Foundation. The Boldt Arts Alive! Series is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
