The King's Singers is a Grammy-winning a capella choral group based out of the United Kingdom.
THE KING'S SINGERS CHRISTMAS is an excellent show offering both traditional and modern numbers. The singers' voices blend seamlessly together in tight harmonies that often make it hard to pick out any single voice. Thankfully, each performer also has featured sections throughout the performance that allow the audience to appreciate his unique skills. In addition to the songs, the performers also recite readings, which vary between touching and hilarious. These readings are a great way to break up the music and create a more well-rounded Christmas atmosphere.
This performance by The King's Singers was preceded by the pre-show event, CHRISTMAS AT THE GRAND, which was a good idea in theory but lacked execution. The pre-show performance by the Wausau Conservatory of Music and free carriage rides brought in extra performers, their families and interested community members. However, the Great Hall is usually uncomfortably full with theatergoers before even moderately well-attended shows. The addition of this special event meant that the entirety of the Great Hall quickly transformed into an impenetrable wall of people unmatched by even the most intense Black Friday sale. To make the situation worse, the doors to the theater were not opened until just 15 minutes before showtime. With more people arriving every minute, this led to audience members quickly getting to know each other much more intimately than they had ever hoped. The disquiet of the wait transferred to the beginning of the show with a lot of program rustling and a generally unsettled atmosphere within the audience.
Nonetheless, THE KING'S SINGERS CHRISTMAS was an enjoyable show featuring very talented and engaging performers.
