Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic black comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.

Ages: youth and adults

Cast and Creative team for Arsenic and Old Lace at Anchorage Community Theatre

Cast

Lucy MacCabe Conner

MARTHA BREWSTER
A longtime musical actor, Lucy is honored to be in this classic, first show of our 70th Anniversary season! You’ve seen her before in multiple ACT shows, including "Happy Christmas, Jeeves", "Broadway Bound" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (as Mrs. Beaver). She has performed locally with TBA Theatre, Midnight Sun Theatre, Arctic Sirens Cabaret and the Anchorage Concert Chorus. Lucy has performed in repertory theatre, community theatre and Broadway Revue shows in Florida, Texas and Maine. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, singing (especially jazz), making art and being with her family.

Denise Bishop Cotten

ABBY BREWSTER
Denise has been acting in Anchorage since 2016. She has performed on stage with ACT ("The Feral Child", 2019). Cyrano’s ("Fancy Nancy: The Musical", 2017), and TBA Theatre ("The Wizard of Oz" (2016), "Miracle on 34th Street" (2016), "The Music Man" (2018), "Hello, Dolly!" (2022), and "Alice in Wonderland" (2023), to name a few). When not on stage, Denise enjoys reading, binge watching, and spending time with her family. She also spends quite a bit of time herding cats, also known as teaching fifth grade.

Chris Linn

MORTIMER BREWSTER
Chris enjoys any opportunity to make people laugh. His recent roles at ACT include Bert Healy and Drake in "Annie" and Dr. Lovelace in "They Promised Her the Moon". He also recently appeared as Sorcerer Slurm in Cyrano’s production of "SUPERSIDEKICK: The Musical". Chris is originally from Austin, TX but has made Anchorage his home since 2014. He DEFINITELY does not have mercy killing aunties that bury gentlemen in his cellar.

Josh Head

JONATHAN BREWSTER
Josh grew up as a military brat. He has lived in many different places in the lower 48. Now he loves experiencing all that Alaska has to offer. Josh graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University with a degree in music. Since then, he sang with the opera in Billings, Montana, worked with the Magic City Singers also in Billings, and spent a few years in the Military. Lately he has been enjoying working with the different theater companies here in Anchorage. Josh was a part of ACT’s production of "Annie", the hero in the Fur Rondy Melodrama, and just finished "Carmen" with the Anchorage Opera. He can’t wait for the next project to sink his teeth into.

Nathan Hall

DR. EINSTEIN
Nathan previously appeared in ACT productions of "They Promised Her the Moon", "Wait Until Dark" and "The Great Gatsby: A Live Radio Play". He moved to Anchorage from Minnesota in 2010 and his current day job is regulating the AK insurance industry. You may also remember him from "The Marijuana-Logues" and the AK 1-Minute Play Festival. In his spare time, he pursues his true passion: writing about himself in the 3rd person.

Stefan Morin

TEDDY BREWSTER
Stefan is positively dee-lighted to charge once more onto the stage at Anchorage Community Theatre! He most recently appeared as Sam Hendrix in "Wait Until Dark". His other theatrical expeditions with ACT include Milo Tindle in "Sleuth", Jack Jerome in "Broadway Bound", and Bernard in "Don't Dress for Dinner". Stefan's acting credits in Alaska also include performances with Cyrano's Theatre Company ("Twelfth Night" and "Fallen Angels") and Ghost Light Productions ("The Play That Goes Wrong"). He extends a robust 'Thank You' to you, the patrons of the arts and hopes tonight's tale of dark comedy and family foibles leaves you declaring, "Bully, I say, just bully!"

Justin Stewart

OFFICER O'HARA
Justin is an alumnus of the UAA Department of Theatre & Dance. He starred for a few years in a combination live-action and animated educational children's program while living in Beijing, China. He's also been seen in numerous productions at UAA ("Twelve Angry Jurors", "Taming of the Shrew", "Spamalot", "Big River", "Stalking the Bogeyman"), in Anne Hanley’s touring production of "The Winter Bear", and at Anchorage Community Theatre as John Glenn in "They Promised Her the Moon" (2023) and director of "The Claw" (2022). In 2022 he was also voted Best Director & Best Actor by Anchorage Press readers for his role as Max in the smash hit farce "The Play That Goes Wrong" with Ghost Light Productions.

Marrin Eighinger

ELAINE HARPER
Marrin is thrilled to be participating in another ACT show! Since getting involved with ACT in 2021, she has acted in the show "Happy Christmas, Jeeves" as Mabel Goggin and directed last season's production of "The Sensuous Senator". When she isn't at the theatre she can usually be found either spending time with Ginny Lindberg and Steph Smoot or at home with her cat, Morris. She hopes you all enjoy the show!

Scott Rhode

REV. DR. HARPER / MR. WITHERSPOON
Scott is happy to be back under the direction of MaryAlice Larmi, after collaborating in 2017 and 2018 for Midnight Sun Theatre Co.'s Serial Bowl. More recently, Scott has performed in the Three Barons Renaissance Fair, as a toreador in Anchorage Opera's "Carmen", and as Sir Andrew Aguecheek in "Twelfth Night" at Cyrano's. He has played many parts in ACT's radio plays, including the Karloff role in the Halloween production of "Frankenstein: The Radio Play". He regularly writes 100-word bios as an editor at Alaska Business magazine.

Shawn Eby

OFFICER KLEIN
Shawn started acting in 2008 and performed with the Ad-lib Alchemists, UAA’s improv troupe, from 2013 to 2018. He graduated from UAA with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in December 2015. He has had several roles in UAA productions and played Piston Codswallow (Kinesias)/Ensemble in "Lysistrata" (2019). Most recently, he was an actor and production assistant in a short film called "The Cuddlist" in 2022 and 2023, which was produced by local filmmakers.

John Coe

OFFICER BROPHY
John has called Alaska home since 2017, and is excited to return to Anchorage Community Theatre for his second show. He cut his acting teeth with a minor role in sixth-grade drama club, then went on to carry the lead in several Shakespeare plays in high school. He performed in a 2015 production of "Watch on the Rhine" with Colonial Players in Annapolis, Maryland, and in ACT's 2021 production of "Happy Christmas, Jeeves". Over the years, he has also played several small roles in short films, commercials, and TV series.

Andy Cummings

LIEUTENANT ROONEY / MR. GIBBS
In 1978 Andy auditioned for his very first play in high school, "Arsenic and Old Lace". He was cast as Mr. Gibbs. Now 45 years later Andy is very proud to be making his Anchorage Community Theatre debut in, you guessed it! "Arsenic and Old Lace" as Mr. Gibbs! But this time, he is also cast as Lieutenant Rooney. Andy has been very active with TBA Theatre since 2019. When he is not on stage, there is a good chance that he is working backstage or has a hand in building/painting the sets. Andy volunteers for TBA's Summer Theatre Academy as a Stage Tech Instructor. He can also be seen in local commercials for GCI and hopefully soon can be seen in his very first independent film, "Next to North" which is in post-production. On a personal note, Andy would like to thank you for supporting local live theatre! You are the real stars of the show!! Thank you!
