TREASURE ISLAND follows the adventures of young Jim Hawkins, cabin boy aboard the Hispanola as he travels in search of treasure on the mysterious Skeleton Island. Along the way he encounters fantastic characters such as the mad Ben Gunn, hideous apparition of evil, Blind Pew, murderous Israel Hands, and of course, Long John Silver, one of the most charismatic anti-heroes in all of literature. Will Jim save the ship and return home with the treasure, or will he fall in with the mutinous pirates. Find out the explosive secret of Treasure Island, opening Nov 8th.
Anita Maynard-Losh, former Perseverance Associate Artistic Director and current Director of Community Engagement at Arena Stage will return to direct. Previous Alaskan credits include the critically acclaimedTlingit Macbeth which was developed at Perseverance and performed in English and Tlingit at the National Museum of the American Indian. Ms. Maynard-Losh has directed readings and workshops of new plays at Arena Stage and the Kennedy Center. She was also the dialect coach on a new interpretation of the musical Ragtime, both at the Kennedy Center and on Broadway.
The cast is a dynamic blend of local and national talent. Bostin Christopher, critically acclaimed star of Of Mice and Men, returns to the stage as, Long John Silver; the villain with the heart of a hero. Enrique Bravo, Artistic Company Lead, plays the noble Dr. Livesey; ArRon Abella makes his Perseverance debut as the young Jim Silver, and new Marketing Associate Tom Robenolt joins the cast playing roles ranging from the lovable buffoon Squire Trelawney to infamous blackguard Billy Bones. Also flying in from Seattle, is former star of Leading Ladies Dan Reaume to play the sinister apparition of evil, Blind Pew.
Artistic Director, Art Rotch, designs the set. Paul Hackenmueller of New York City will design lights, and Juneau local, Marta Lastufka returns to Perseverance as Costume Designer. Swordplay and fisticuffs designed by Jessica Jacob.
Ken Ludwig is an internationally-acclaimed playwright whose work has been performed in more than 30 countries in over 20 languages. He has had 6 shows on Broadway and 6 in the West End. He has won two Laurence Olivier Awards, two Helen Hayes Awards, the Edgar Award, the SETC Distinguished Career Award, and the Edwin Forrest Award for Services to the Theatre. His plays have been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Bristol Old Vic. He is a McCarter Theatre/Sallie B.
