The Discovery Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts will host performances by Brandi Carlile and Charmaine Clamor this month.
Brandi Carlile's music has been categorized in several genres, including pop, rock, alternative country, indie and folk. Before signing to a major record label, Carlile performed in local Seattle establishments with twin brothers Tim and Phil. Carlile sold herr self-released recordings during local performances. Carlile began to attract the attention of the music industry after Dave Matthews heard her band perform at the 2003 Sasquatch! Music Festival. Carlile will appear at the Discovery Theatre on July 16 at 7:30pm.
Charmaine Clamor began her musical journey at age 3, entertaining passengers -- whether they liked it or not! -- in the back of buses traveling to Manila. Originally from the provincial town of Subic-Zambales, Philippines, young Clamor provided piano accompaniment while her mother sang kundiman (Filipino torch songs) and English-language classics. These childhood memories inspired Clamor's enduring love of American music. Clamor will appear at the Discovery Theatre on July 18 at 8:00pm.
