Anchorage Concert Association's presentation of The Nutcracker every Thanksgiving weekend is an annual tradition for many families, and this July, people have an opportunity to extend that tradition to others who may need a little help this holiday season. For every ticket to The Nutcracker purchased from July 10 (when tickets go on sale) to July 31, the Anchorage Concert Association will give away a ticket to someone who would love to see The Nutcracker but couldn't otherwise be able to attend.
"The Nutcracker is about the magic and wonderment of being a child and embodies the spirit of Christmas. We want as many people as possible to experience that magic," said Laura Carpenter, marketing director for the Anchorage Concert Association. "Our goal for Christmas in July is to give away 200 tickets. Will you help us do that?"
The Nutcracker, Nov. 24-26, in the Atwood Concert Hall, features Eugene Ballet Company, live music from the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, and Alaska dancers coordinated by Alaska Dance Theatre. Anchorage Concert Association's presentation of this treasured ballet has been taking Anchorage audiences to the Land of the Sweets for almost 30 years.
ConocoPhillips sponsors The Nutcracker and also supports a community dress rehearsal for clients of social service agencies in Anchorage. Last year, about 1,500 people enjoyed this fantastical masterpiece for free thanks to support from ConocoPhillips. "This presentation of the Nutcracker offers young local dancers a unique chance to perform alongside professionals, while providing an opportunity to bring this classic holiday ballet to people who might otherwise never get to experience this tradition," said Portia Babcock, Director Community Investment and Public Affairs for ConocoPhillips Alaska. "We are delighted to support this great community event and excited about the opportunity for more people to be able to join."
