Prolific English playwright Simon Stephens’ play, Morning Sun, which debuted in New York in October 2021, spans 50 years of one woman’s life, revealing it in all its complexity, mystery and possibility. Charley’s life is dramatic but unsung—the kind that never makes headlines but is nonetheless full of incident. The telling of it is a chance to make it gleam with meaning. Stephens won both the Tony and Olivier Best Play awards for his adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Robert Benedetti will direct this production of Stephens’ play, which Theatremania described as “a piece with so many rich particulars that it evokes countless universals.”
