Dancing At Lughnasa is a play about the courage of 5 sisters in 1936 Ballybeg, Ireland as told through the memory of Michael. Faced with no meaningful work, no likelihood of a husband, and only themselves to depend upon, they still manage to find joy and humor in their lives. 1936 Ireland was a time of extreme poverty, due to the 1929 economic crash. An entire generation of young men had been lost in WW1 and very few women would find husbands. The youngest sister has had a son out of wedlock and he is now age 7. Lughnasa is the Irish Harvest Festival which always happens in late August.
