A potpourri of staged readings, to benefit much-needed upgrades to The Adobe Theater, will offer patrons the chance to see two great plays this August as presented by outstanding actors and New Mexico celebrities.

A.R. Gurney's romantic comedy/drama, "Love Letters" will be performed ten times in August and Alfred Uhry's wonderful "Driving Miss Daisy" will be performed on August 22nd and 24th.

"Love Letters" will feature a number of New Mexico celebrities among the ten different couples who will perform, including (in alphabetic order) former Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish, long time ABQ Journal drama critic Barry Gaines, Judge Bill Lang, BIG 98.5 morning host Chaz Malibu, and KKOB Weekend host Terrie Q Sayre along with their actual spouses. (for all but Terrie Q, where it will be her regular on-air sidekick Dan Goss). They will be joined by a number of Albuquerque Theater standouts in the roles of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. The play tells the story of a star-crossed romance from childhood to seniority through the now nearly lost art of written correspondence that went through the US mail between two friends who eventually became lovers. For a complete list of pairings of readers see our website www.adobetheater.org.

"Love Letters" will be spelled by "Driving Miss Daisy" for two performances only on Friday August 22nd and Sunday August 24th. This classic drama was last done at the Old Adobe in Corrales almost 20 years ago to the day, with the late Penny Powell and Don Perkins in the unforgettable roles of Daisy and Hoke. This time it will be a staged reading with NM favorites Jane Hoffman in the title role, Gene Corbin as her philosophical chauffeur Hoke, and Tim Ragsdale as Daisy's son, Boolie.

"Love Letters" runs today, August 1 -17 and August 23. "Driving Miss Daisy" performances are August 22 and August 24. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm. All tickets are only $10. Group sales (10+) are $9 per ticket. Buy 2 different performances at the same time for only $15. Reservations can be made on the Adobe website www.adobetheater.org or by calling the newly revamped Adobe Theater Telephone Reservation System at 1.800.838.3006.
